Azzy, Ari, and I went over to Blockbuster and spent a little of our xmas money on DVDs. I mean, yeah most of our money is going to bills, but we should at least get something cheap to keep our poor selves occupied until tax refund season. For about $40 (carefully budgeted) we picked up the following DVDs:

Angels & Demons
Ice Age 3
Star Trek
Watchmen
Monsters vs Aliens
Up

I think it was a good deal, especially since I haven't seen half the movies on there and the price of a movie ticket is about $8 a person... so yeah, gotta admit a good deal when you see one.
Nite!

On May 1st, 2009, the existence of the supernatural was revealed to the world. Vampires, werewolves, and more exist. They are coming out of the shadows and into the light - and they come with a message. They mean no harm or danger to humans. But there are other things out there that do.

The descendants of demons. Sirens. And the mysterious race known as the Dream Eaters - the baku - that feed on dreams and nightmares, and can use their powers for good or evil. And the angels that once protected our realm have mysteriously disappeared.

The events regarding the supernatural that unraveled this May came to be known as the Light of May. Those who have lived their lives in secrecy and shadow can come into the light. But what of those who embrace the shadow? The darker sorts of the world, who regard us as little more than play-things or food?

The world as we know it has been forever changed. Along with their new supernatural neighbors, the human race is unknowingly preparing for a war between darkness and light.

Which side are you on?

Apartments For Rent
VACANT. Victor Frankenstein's formative years were defined largely by tragedy, and the young man developed an obsession with the science of death. Thanks to a suggestion from Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde, an old school friend, he's moved to Bellum Letale to (unsuccessfully) hide from his beloved creation, Annabel Lee, and he's decided to keep Ichabod Crane, his closest friend, from learning his terrible secret.

VACANT. Meg Giry is a dancer in a very well-known strip joint in New York. It completely clashes with her puritanical upbringing, and her best friend (and secret crush) Christine Daae doesn't quite get it--she also doesn't know that Meg Giry is a lesbian. Meg Giry's noticed The Phantom hanging around the building lately, even if Christine Daae hasn't, and she doesn't like it one bit. Her only confidant in the building is Rose Red, who she is desperately attracted to. She's had a fling or two with several residents, however, including Van Helsing and the Cheshire Cat, and just for fun she's been hanging around a lot with Guinevere. Sure, she doesn't like the woman that way, but it's stirring up some great rumors.

VACANT. ADDITIONAL AVAILABLE TENANTS.

Premise:
There is an apartment building in New York called 'Bellum Letale.' Most people ignore its auspicious name, though they would be advised to pay more attention to its meaning.

It is a strange building.

Every man, woman and child in the building is a reincarnated fable, the stories told to human children for hundreds, sometimes thousands of years. Once very real, the fables began to fade as science and reason dispelled the probability of their existence. They have all been reborn in human forms, though their essence remains, waiting to be awakened at the right time, in the right place.

Now is the time - Bellum Letale is the place. As their lives connect and weave together, as they follow their petty desires and long-held grudges, they are, all of them, on the brink of disaster. Their Landlord knows their every move, and the building they live in seems to have an agenda of its own. People are tortured, people die, people plot behind each other's backs and sneak around and cheat. They love, they fight, they draw blood. This is not the fairy tale you remember being told.

for [info]misskimh. I had a cat, Nicodemus the Evile Anti-Koala aka ThiefCat, who would steal crackers off of the table (or out of your hand if you weren't paying attention) and then go to a corner and eat them like a squirrel. He also stole small pieces of jewelry, coins, other shiny bits, and die. He once stole a dice while my ex was rolling die while watching tv. Just snuck his paw out and tucked it under himself while pretending to be watching tv as well. My ex didn't notice a thing. He also didn't believe it when I asked him to count his die, he noticed one missing, and I said, "Pick up the cat." "What?" "Trust me. Just pick up the cat." ::chuckle::

I was turning right when some evil bint in a huge red van stared me down and cut me off from one lane over. She very nearly crushed my tiny car flat but I lucked out. I followed her to the parking lot of the Target but by the time I got out of my car she was already in the store, so I wrote a hilarious note on the back of a Cub dietary fiber guide and stuck it on her windshield. I wish I could have yelled at her in person, but no way am I hunting her down in this boxing day store madness.

Twas the Morning After Christmas...

  • Dec. 26th, 2009 at 11:03 AM
...And I got nothing. Seriously, I don't know why management thought it would be a good idea to have us come in today. My department is the ONLY department here and I've seen not one student come in... which wouldn't matter because all the labs are closed so there's no reason to come in. We're only open for people wanting to enroll for school.

...riiiight.

Ah well, its easy money and I do have access to livejournal somehow. Wheee, being paid to blog!

Christmas was fun. Ari got some nice gifts and money. Maybe I should look into one of those college funds for her with Chase. Start saving early, you know? I got a little blue-tooth headset thing. I get to play around with that later and see how it works. It'll be useful for car trips and when I need both hands free for something. :)
Hang on, gotta process the call report, BRB...

...Okay done. That was a really sorry call log :3
30 outbound calls in two hours. Ouch. For perspective, the minimum should be 100 outbound calls per hour. Hahaha, I'm pretty sure management is gonna look at these figures and be mighty upset. Though really, they have no one to be upset AT. But themselves maybe. Not really our fault there's a lack of business today. All the other department heads seemed to have known this. That's just how it is on the day after Christmas.

So... Happy Boxing Day?

Edit: Darn you IMDB.com! It crashed my work PC :p Not that I missed any calls or anything. I'm just annoyed that for having one of the most critical positions around here I have the worst computer to run it with.

Christmas was nice. I had a good time with family and stuff. I got some fun gifts too. I now own a nice coat and matching gloves/hat/scarf. I was getting a bit self-conscious of my old salvation army coat so that makes me happy. This one looks way too nice for me to wear every day, but I'll wear it to nicer places. Maybe work too. Also got some money which is very helpful, and I will actually maybe have a bit of money in my bank account!

I'm only up this late because A) I had a nap earlier, and B) I was working on some overdue artwork. I need to email it out.

Days are running together so fast. I think the weekend needs to slow down. A lot.

AAAHHHHHHHH!!!

Ok ok so it isn't brilliant, technically speaking, to go running around up to one's knees in snow on a slush-covered lake in the middle of the night in one's long underwear and with only a very enthusiastic dog for company, but boy is it fun. There are two snow-fatasses out there somewhere where the Captain managed to knock me ass over teakettle. I made up for it by grabbing wads of super-smooshy surface snow and making him play fetch with them. HA.

It is perfect snowman snow right now because it has been above freezing all day and sleeting like a mofo. Even after the huge meltoff this afternoon it's at least a foot deep.

The neighbor's 30 foot tree has given up the fight against the elements and gone all floppy octopus noodles across his backyard. It looks like some really deranged modern artist's depiction of a windstorm in Gumbyland, but more snowy.

This is my first time being snowed in. Exciting! I did many Xmas things like eating pie and laughing at the unfortunate, and even watched the Half Blod Prince movie I've been making myself wait for. I loved it.

Rain gave me Titanic themed gifties... a big map of the ship's blueprints, dates and facts, all that good shit. And some ice cube molds shaped like wee Titanics and icebergs for my next super morbid party. Fuck yeah.

And yummy sushi socks, a bacon chocolate bar, and a strange hawaiian hair-cthulhu with shells woven in. The new housemates gave me a small powerful space heater that, like, oscilates and shit. And Hurricane Michael gave me an interesting Xmas card that doubles as a packet of seeds for some type of environmentally helpful tree.

I am still waiting on several friends to notice their gifties, all of which were drawn because I are welfare king, and my holiday will be complete.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go use my inhaler again, dry off my hair and fantasize about what it might be like to possess dignity.

Watches

  • Dec. 25th, 2009 at 6:41 PM
Odd story: My dad has an old Casio watch about the same age as the one I bought off eBay. Before buying mine, I thought about asking him if I could have his, but I figured he would just shoot me down and criticize me for being greedy.

So, I showed him the one I bought, and the next thing he said was "You should have asked me for mine, I never wear it anymore. I would have given it to you."

I asked if I could still have it for my collection, and he said "No, you already have one now."

Here's the one he has on the left, with mine on the right:

I like mine more I think, but it would have been neat to have his too.

Holiday Blizzard?

  • Dec. 25th, 2009 at 4:43 PM
More like Holiday Bullshit to me.

Yeah, so my dad called me this morning to say "Don't come over if you don't think it's safe, don't do it just because you don't want to disappoint us, etc etc." I said I was coming regardless, the roads didn't sound that bad to me, and the parking lot had been plowed last night.

So, no, the roads weren't bad at all. They were damn near clear, and even my father's side road was fine.

In fact, the worst part of this so-called "blizzard" was Wednesday night, when the snow began, and before crews had time to plow it very much. Driving Thursday was not as bad, and like I said, I could have made the planned dinner had it not been cancelled on me. Today, it was hardly like anything road-wise.

At least I got to have some semblance of a normal Christmas dinner with my father and stepmother. I got $100 from them, cash, which is great. That's a lot of mochas right there.

I also got to take home some turkey, for lunch tomorrow, and some cookies. They're home made little snowflake and snowman sugar cookies, with sprinkles. I absolutely love those. They're much better than the frosted kind like I bought last night at Target.

Last Chance for Personalized #1!

  • Dec. 25th, 2009 at 2:06 PM
Dat's wight, wabbits. Tomorrow (the 26th) is the cutoff date for awesome personalized sketches in issue #1. I'll still be doodling in every copy, but it'll be a random selection after the 26th.

Also, does anybody with good site design/programming skills feel up to redoing the Kagerou site? I have a navigation style loosely held in mind, but not the necessary skills to make it work or look right on various browsers. Ideally I'd like to end up with something similar to how the comics on http://www.onemanga.com are laid out, only without the whole troublesome "ripping the HTML like a total dick" part.

Many moons ago I said this would be done by the New Year, and now I am out of excuses to put it off. I can pay only with linkage, but will gladly contribute graphics to the layout as needed. Let me know if you're interested!

Side 7 Launches v4.0.1

  • Dec. 25th, 2009 at 11:41 AM
First of all, I'd like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Joyful Kwanza, Fantastic Day O'Presents & Greed and a Happy Holiday to everyone. If I've missed a holiday you celebrate, I apologize. :)

We'd like to announce that version 4.0.1 of Side 7 has launched! This small update brings back a few features that didn't launch due to time constraints with version 4.0, and adds a few other features. Back is the management of Profile Images, and added are views of which of your images have comments and which have been Favourited by other site members! A few minor bug fixes are also included, such as comment reply notifications going out properly. Also, we added CAPTCHA security to a few areas of the site to prevent bot spam.

This update has been a long time coming. If I might be a little personal, this has been a hard year for myself or my family. Medical obligations, loss of employment, and the premature birth of my daughter all played a hand in forcing priority changes and delaying work on v4.0.1. Fortunately, we've clawed our way past most of the major issues and are digging ourselves out of the red slowly but surely. This means that the doors are open to begin work on v4.1.

Version 4.1 is a very major update. There are major back-end reworkings that will facilitate features such as music, video, and literature uploads. Yes, we're adding these media types to the site, since they are all valid forms of art. Video may not be added in v4.1, but instead might be added in v4.1.1. Other site features will include the site skinning system, which will open with a Site Skin Design contest! Winners will receive prizes of a year's subscription to a 5-Star account, addition of their skin design to the site (fully credited), and other prizes, such as art supplies! Recent Upload and 5-Star Account RSS Feeds, as well as automatic Twitter updates, will help get the word out about your latest art additions. Embeddable gallery and image tags to post to other sites or use in forums sigs are going to be another way you can advertize, and click-throughs from those tags will be counted and will earn you Account Credits!

We'll also institute the Invite A Friend system so you can earn Account Credits or Account Subscription extensions for getting your friends to join! Speaking of friends, our Friends system will be completed in the v4.1 release, giving you access to private, friends-only uploads of your images, music, and prose that don't count against your gallery count and are exempt from the site rules (privacy has its privileges).

We hope you enjoy the new features of the site and look forward to the upcoming features. Thank you for your patronage!

If you'd like to comment on this announcement, you can do so here: http://forums.side7.com/forums_thread.cgim?forum_thread_id=296&forum_category_id=15&no_inc=1

Akaelae is updating temporarily on Shivae.net. Pleaes pass this on. There is also an update for today!

I will likely take a few more commissions after the holidays to make up for the $175 gap in finances ... and will likely take more in January. The sites being down has severely hurt ad revenue. :( IF you want to get in your requests now, feel free to send them in. (I don't have access to my email account at the moment.)

Btw - me on TGT Podcast http://tgtwebcomics.com/archive/2009/ep78-ad/

Those of you with paid accounts, you get a month (or however long it takes for Cyantian.net to return for free. Those of you waiting for me to APPROVE your accounts, you also get a month free on top of what you asked for once the account is set up.

Future Shivae! RPG Forums - Next will be Cyantian's RPG forums. I'm tired of dealing with Dreamhost and want the sites consolidated 'next' to each other. :P I can't even get into my store.
Since it's that time of year and I'm asked every year, my wishlist has been updated and is located here.

If you enjoy the comics the number one thing you can do is direct other people to the sites (If you need linking images of a certain size or for a certain comic, just ask.. it'll get me to actually MAKE them...). :) Or consider donating to support them/ get the ad free viewing account.
I also have a huge mountain of email to go through! Still.

Movie I'd like to see with husband: Sherlock Holmes. Despite myself, I do want to take Kim to see Princess and the Frog. I am still intrigued by Avatar, for visuals alone. I'm not expecting a great story - I can't stand watching Titanic these days... it's so painfully BAD, yet I liked the movie for about 24 hours after I watched it. I think our Christmas movie will be Sherlock Holmes and likely Alvin and the Chipmunks for Kim. Really light Christmas season it seems for movies.

"They're all desperadoes, these kids, all of them with any life in their veins; the girls as well as the boys; maybe more than the boys."

London, 1924.

The season is in full swing and everyone who's anyone wants to be seen rubbing shoulders with the wizarding world's own Bright Young Things; the group of carefree young purebloods who'll one day run the place, but for now prefer to live out frivolous and decadent lives, partying, drinking and occasionally having a bit too much gillyweed for their own good.

In their townhouses and country manors, an older generation shakes their weary heads and complains about the state of youth today, holding onto their time honoured traditions for dear life, plotting which daughter will marry which son and who will wear what to the annual charity ball at the Ministry of Magic.

It isn't hard to imagine the clash between young and old, traditional and modern values that will eventually ensue. Is there hope of a bridge between the generations, bringing understanding between the fast moving youth and their parents? Will the young carry on with their indulgent ways, causing as much scandal as they can? Or is it not true that even those with a little more experience on their side are just as adept at bringing about trouble of their own?

Merry Christmas, everyone! ♥ ♥ ♥

I love you all to pieces- my friends are a part of my family, and without you, my life would be dim. You bring a warmth and brightness to my life that cannot be accurately described in words. I hope this holiday season finds you well, and that you have as much love in your life as I do. ♥ ♥

And now, as I usually post on this holiday, the lyrics to one of my favorite Christmas hymns (which is one that I'm surprised more people have not heard of):

Sweet Little Jesus Boy )

Tenth Twilight.

Rokkenjima, October 4-5th, 1986. The site of a gruesome murder, the bodies of thirteen found dead. The rest of the island's inhabitants, the Ushiromiya family and the guests who had come to stay at the hotel owned by that prestigious family, simply vanished.

Police found a portrait with an epitaph beneath it. The scene could only be described as eerie. The police read the epitaph, counted it all up... it couldn't be! It was thirteen. Thirteen people mentioned. Thirteen people dead. The rest vanished. Why? WHY?! To revive a witch? What was this?

What happened on the island of Rokkenjima? Who had carried out such crimes? It couldn't be... no... a real witch?!

[info]tenthtwilight is a multifandom AU rp based on the Umineko no Naku Koro Ni series of games. A seemingly innocent vacation and family conference goes horribly awry as a series of murders is committed in the the stinging rain of a typhoon. That is when a strange letter arrives, declaring that the witch, Beatrice, has come to collect her payments for services due, in blood. Is this really due to a witch?

Characters will come up against the witch and be forced to choose: believe in magic and the witch and thus absolve their fellow humans of all guilt, or deny the witch and condemn themselves to an endless cycle of death and despair. Whichever they choose, their battle has just begun. How long will this game of chess last, and who will be the ultimate victor? What's the truth, you ask? Who is the real culprit, a witch or a human? That is up for you and your character to decide. How about it? Don't you want to join such a fun and interesting game? Kihihihi!

This game offers another twist on the original series. In [info]tenthtwilight ALL characters will have a chance to take on the witch in purgatory. Think of it as an endless game of chess will multiple game boards and multiple opponents! Oh yes. It's not just the witch you're fighting, riiiiiight? Why don't you fight amongst yourselves for a while and tear each other limb from limb while searching for your own distorted truth!

So why don't you just accept it? It's all the work of the witch. Rest in peace until you reach the Golden Land.

Welcome to Rokkenjima.

live positively;

Welcome to Live Positively, a program established to reform delinquents into happy, healthy, and productive members of society. Although the state of South Carolina would never officially refer to the program ran by Drs. Worthington and Richards as a “reform school”, that is exactly what it is. Founded in 2004, New Perspective focuses on reforming the delinquent individuals sent to them into more productive members of society. The staff may have a constant smile, but an estate this big has to have a few secrets, right?

the offenders;

Apparently you have little regard for the law, society’s rules, or even human life. So here you are. You’ve either been sent here by your family or shipped here by the courts in lieu of sending you straight to jail. You will be separated into two different programs: one for violent offenders and one for non-violent offenders. Chilling down South for a few months, sounds like a vacation, right? Wrong. New Perspective is a prison disguised as a positive program for young adults. You can’t leave until the Powers That Be say you can, so get used to being controlled and make the best of it.

the staff;

If you’re going to work for Connor and Koraline, it’s best that you have a clear understanding of the meaning of discretion. If you’re a long-time employee (like the Head of Security, the Chief of Staff or the Program Director), then you already know the drill:
-- Assistants/Program Directors are expected to establish positive, character building activities for the NP participants in addition to designing and heading field trips which take place every other Wednesday.

-- Psychiatrists will take turns leading group sessions once a week (on Sundays) and can refer students to either Dr. Richards or Dr. Worthington if extra therapy is needed.

-- Nurses will be in charge of assisting the doctors and keeping track of records and the medication needed for more “troubled” youth.

-- Members of the security detail work in shifts; those on the daytime shift patrol the grounds, assist staff members who are having trouble with unruly students, and at least one member will go on the field trips to keep everything under control; those on the nighttime shift patrol the grounds and make sure that attendees adhere to the curfew. Guards never actually check to see that the students are in their rightful rooms, so long as no one is caught roaming about.

Nowhere Kids is an original character RP consisting of "delinquents", psychiatrists and nurses, security, and program directors. The game start December 30th 2009.

Wednesday night

So last night ended up that Wehr couldn't make it over for dinner or coffee, so I ate by myself and went to coffee, Conor was the only one there. Spent about an hour there before Sev and Rayna showed up, and Sev mentioned he was meeting Earthshine there for seeing Avatar at 10:15 at the MN Zoo Imax.

I had been invited to this previously, but declined because I had plans with Wehr for dinner and coffee night, and he told me he didn't want to see the movie. But, since he wasn't there, I decided to just end up going, despite the weather because I didn't know when I'd get another chance to see the movie with people. Plus, Conor wanted to go, and offered to let me ride with him since the zoo is on the other side of the cities and the weather was pretty bad.

On the way to the theater, we stopped at a McDonald's for some food, because some people hadn't eaten. I didn't have a lot for dinner so I got a happy meal there, just a hamburger and fries, and got a toy with it from Avatar - it was the hammerhead six legged creature, or as I call it the "Hammerhead Hexapod". It has this clear mohawk thing that lights up too, with a color cycling RGB LED.

Tonight since I had nothing else to do, I went and got a pizza at Target and came to Sev's place to have pizza and watch some television. Beats spending the night alone I guess.

Just had our first casualty ornament from the tree. I took the laundry upstairs to fold, leaving Ari with the wife. Five minutes into the folding I hear the wife yelling at me to come downstairs. Apparently she wasn't watching the kid, being too distracted by her computer, that Ari snuck up to the tree and plucked off a blue ball to chew on. Ari broke it up into little pieces. Not sure if she swallowed any. I don't think she did... Blech.
Gotta keep an eye on the kid. She's ninja.

Well one ball down, 11 still hanging in there.

When you first arrive you wake up on a cold hard bed with only a thin pillow and a sheet thrown over you for warmth. All around you are steel bars. The only light is a bright overhead that seems to beam down at you, making the grey color scheme even more grim.

I hope everyone has a safe and wonderful Christmas.

Michael and I celebrated Hannukah last week, and are joining my family for Christmas tomorrow. Lots of joy this time around! While I now consider myself mostly Jewish, I was raised with a Christmas, and I can't help but feel excited. This is one of the things I really love about Michael...he's willing to celebrate with me, even though it's not really something that he's done in the past.

We'll do Christmas morning with my family, go see Sherlock Holmes in the afternoon, and be back to my place for a family dinner. Fun all around!

Off to pack!

I totally could have gone to dinner if my mother hadn't cancelled plans. This Christmas Eve sucks.

This is the sort of weather that turns dogs into boats, cars into sleds and hiking trips into the Cannibal Camp Cookoff.

Seriously, the Captain has to leap about to keep his junk from catching frostbite, and he's a pretty big dog.

I put the Insight in the garage after digging a windshield-shaped peephole with my shovel. No way the bubblecar can navigate this shit, and we need the space for parking as everyone is coming here for X-mas day festivosity.

Provided they can all harness their sled dogs in a way that bypasses the aforementioned doggie dong icicle hazard.
